POISON IVEY
In an earlier column we described Phil Ivey as the Tiger Woods of poker and he has recently confirmed that tag with amazing back to back wins. Just twenty four hours after winning the “Monte Carlo Millions” tournament, Ivey ploughed through a war zone of the world’s best professional players at a special “Celebrity Face Off” to take his tally for the two days to a cool $1,600,000. Phil Hellmuth, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow and half a dozen of the meanest poker dudes on the planet (all dressed like penguins in compulsory Monte Carlo tuxedos) were spectacularly taken down by Poison Ivey! Given that the demolition was televised across the USA and thirteen other countries, Phil Ivey’s following gains momentum by the day, as does the public’s appetite for all things poker.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?
What does all this mean for the ordinary poker player going online for the first time to play Texas Hold’em, hopefully at dailystarpoker.com? It confirms the long held belief by all serious poker players that Hold’em is not just a game of chance. It is a game requiring skill which contains an element of chance. It is this fact, born out by the number of professionals in second, third and fourth places of the above Monte Carlo tournament, that makes poker so compelling. As a new player you really can “learn” to be great at Texas Hold’em and Omaha. The stories of new players winning large sums of money within just a year or two of really taking the game seriously, is now a matter of regular public record. Encouragement indeed to at least take a careful look at one of our FREE tutorials.
