Where our numbers come from, how archive pages are treated and what happens when we get something wrong.
This page says how the site is written, where the numbers come from and what happens when we get something wrong.
Numbers come from a source
House edge figures, return-to-player percentages, payout rules, licence conditions and helpline numbers are taken from a named source and carry a link to it. Where we have no source, the field is left out rather than estimated. Our own tables — the House Edge Board, the blackjack rule card, the glossary — link to the page each row was taken from.
Regulation and the law
We write for readers in Great Britain. Operators taking bets here must hold a licence from the Gambling Commission, and we point to the public register rather than vouching for anyone ourselves. Rules change; where a page describes a rule, it says when that rule applied.
Archive material
Pages written in 2005 and 2006 are kept as they were published, because they are a record of what the game looked like then. They are filed under The Column and dated. Do not read a twenty-year-old column as current advice about an operator or a promotion.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us at [email protected]. We correct the page itself and say what changed. We do not quietly delete.
Advertising
Commercial links are disclosed. No advertiser sees copy before publication and no advertiser can have a page removed.
Safer gambling
Nothing on this site is betting advice or a promise of profit. If gambling has stopped being a game, the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133, 24 hours a day, and GAMSTOP will block you from every licensed British operator at once.
